Round Dishcloth Crochet Pattern Inspiration

Traditionally, dish cloths are square or rectangular shaped. But like, why??

I wanted to make an easy round crochet dishcloth, so I started with a circle of humble half double crochet stitches. When I joined the contrasting border color, I knew it needed an extra pop. Enter: the picot stitch. [side bar – did you know it’s pronounced pee-coh?] Now there’s a little hint of floral in this otherwise simple round dishcloth crochet pattern. The Blossom Dishcloth is a fitting name for such a lovely kitchen helper, dontcha think?

You’ll love using your new round dishcloth for cleaning your kitchen or washing your face. I’ve been using mine all over the place — under plants, as a background for my diy stitch markers, as a photo prop for the Divine Dice Bag, and as a model for these cute printable project tags.

Tools Needed to Crochet the Round Dishcloth

When you make a dishcloth, round or otherwise, 100% cotton yarn is a must. It’s more hygienic than acrylic (I’ve heard horror stories of moldy acrylic dishcloths 🤢), and much cheaper than wool. Plus, cotton won’t melt like acrylic, so you don’t have to worry about accidentally touching a hot stove.

For the round crochet dishcloth pattern, I reached for Lily Sugar’n Cream yarn. It’s durable and machine washable, so your crocheted dishcloths will look great for a long time.

Lily Sugar’n Cream is one of my favorite cotton yarns, and I use it all the time. Below, you can see the Blossom Dishcloth with some of its besties — the Easiest Double Crochet Dishcloth, the Farmhouse Dishcloth, and the Berry Cabled Dishcloth. All four of these crochet dishcloth patterns are made with Sugar n Cream yarn. My Carrot Stitch Washcloth uses the same yarn, but it didn’t match the blue-green photo vibe.

For a crochet hook, I grabbed the J 6.0 mm from my WeCrochet Dots set. You’ve probably seen these hooks all over IG and FB because they’re (a) adorbs, (b) similar to the popular Clover Amour hooks, and (c) reasonably priced. A set of nine colorful, ergonomic polka dot hooks will set you back about $25, which is not too shabby! I’ve loved mine so far.

Special Tools

The Blossom Dishcloth pattern is easy peasy, lemon squeezy, so you’re good with standard notions. Grab some scissors to trim your yarn and a tapestry needle to invisible join and weave in those ends.

Yarn Substitutions

Lily Sugar’n Cream is a #4 worsted weight cotton yarn. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to find a substitute if Sugar n Cream isn’t available in your area. Dishie from WeCrochet is another of my favorite kitchen cotton yarns. You could also sub Premier Home Cotton, Lion Brand 24/7 cotton (which is mercerized), or any other 100% worsted weight cotton yarn.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

These are the most common questions about crochet dishcloths.

Are crochet dishcloths good?

Crochet dishcloths are excellent! First, they let you try out fun new stitches like the alpine stitch or lemon peel stitch. Second, they’re handy to have around the house for drying dishes, scrubbing countertops, or washing your face.

What can I use instead of a magic ring?

If you don’t want to use a magic ring, you can ch 4, then sl st to the first ch. This will create a small ring that you can crochet into for Round 1 of your dishcloth.

Could a beginner crochet this round dishcloth pattern?

Absolutely! The Blossom Dishcloth is an easy crochet dishcloth pattern that uses simple stitches like single and half double crochets. The border uses a special stitch called the picot, but it’s just a little chain you add to the tops of normal stitches.

What’s your favorite crochet dishcloth pattern?

Oof, this is a tough question! My favorite round crochet dishcloth pattern is the Blossom Dishcloth (shown above). For square or rectangular dishcloths, there’s a lot of tough competition. Right now, I love the ldc ribbing on the Farmhouse Dishcloth.
