If you’re following along in the Newbie Series, congratulations! You’ve reached Day 19 AND the end of the half-double crochet unit. In honor of my favorite stitch, I’ve rounded up 16 beginner-friendly half-double crochet patterns! All of these feature half-double crochets and all can be crocheted with the techniques we’ve learned (or will learn) in the series. Oh! And they’re all free! Pretty sweet, right?

These 16 patterns are all suitable for beginners or advanced beginners and feature a wide range of items including scarves, shawls, blankets, dishcloths, and garments. Almost all are entirely half-double crochet, but a couple also utilize single crochets and/or slip stitches. Most include techniques we’ve already covered (like changing colors), but some feature increases and decreases, which are coming soon in the Newbie Series!

Supplies / Materials
Like in the single crochet pattern round-up, your supplies from the Newbie Series will get you pretty far! Many of these patterns can be crocheted with:
- worsted weight cotton yarn (like Dishie)
- worsted weight acrylic yarn (like Brava)
- a hook from the Bright Hook Set (nine hooks from 2.0 mm – 6.0 mm)
Some use fingering weight yarn (thin yarn, often used for socks) or chunky yarn. I’ll include a note about the yarn/hook if it’s one we haven’t used yet.
