Due to texting and Instagram, I find myself reaching for fingerless gloves more often than regular gloves or mittens. I love that they keep my hands warm, but leave my fingers free for scrolling through important posts about puppies and yarn. Or puppies with yarn? Or puppies with made with yarn. And, if I encountered a real life puppy that needed pets, imagine how soft it would be! But if I had regular gloves… sad. 😭

The Tools

Today, we’re using our worsted weight acrylic yarn and a J 6.0 mm hook in order to achieve a stretchy fabric that will fit over different sizes of hands.

I love Brava worsted from WeCrochet because it’s soft, durable, and washes well. Being washable is especially important for winter wearables, since they’ll be getting all sorts of snow and sleet on them. Unlike most wool yarns, acrylics like Brava can be washed AND dried.

Brava is inexpensive (just $2.49 for 100 grams / 218 yards!) and one ball is more than enough for two full sets of adult sized fingerless gloves and a set of child-sized gloves. There are tons of colors of Brava, but I used Tidepool for my sample pair.

Finishing Off

Fold the rectangle in half so the first and last stitches in each row meet. Use your tapestry needle to seam the sides together, leaving a 2-3 row space for your thumb.

For the Adult – L size, I seamed down to round Row 6, then left a 3-row space, then continued seaming until I reached the end.

Once you’re finished seaming, weave in your ends and trim your yarn.
