When I was working up my round Boho Bobble Coasters, I couldn’t help but crochet some square ones too. They still have that boho flair with bobbles and fringe, but they’re square! Fun, right?

I used Lily Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn in “Light Blue,” but you can use any worsted weight cotton that you have in your stash. Like the round Boho Bobble Coasters, these babies are quick and don’t use much yarn! You only need about 35 yards per coaster.
You can make a set of all square bobble coasters, or you can mix them in with the round ones. The two shapes look adorable together! I always love a good monochromatic blue color scheme, but a rainbow set with several colors would be great too. Or all neutrals? White or cream would be so simple and chic.

Supplies / Materials:
- 35 yards of worsted weight cotton yarn [I used Sugar ‘n Cream]
- 4.5 mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Small comb for brushing out fringe (I used my husband’s beard comb)
Abbreviations / Techniques:
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- st – stitch
- yo – yarn over
- bobble stitch
Gauge / Size:
Gauge is not important for this project.
Finished square boho bobble coasters will be 4.5 inches in diameter without fringe and 5.5 inches in diameter with fringe.
Bobble Stitch Instructions:
- yo, insert hook into stitch and pull through one loop. yo, pull through two loops. (You’re crocheting the first 2/3 of a double crochet)
- Repeat step 1 four more times (in the same stitch). You should have six loops on your hook (top left image).
- yo, pull through all six loops (top right image)
- ch 1 (bottom left image)

Square Boho Bobble Coaster Pattern:
An inexpensive, ad-free PDF can be purchased from Etsy or Ravelry.
Using a G 4.5 mm crochet hook, ch 18
Row 1: sc in second ch from hook, sc across (17)
Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc, *bobble, sc* x8 (17)
Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc across (17)
Row 4: ch 1, turn, sc, bobble, sc in next 13 sts, bobble, sc (17)
Row 5: ch 1, turn, sc across (17)
Rows 6-15: Repeat rows 4-5 five more times
Row 16: Repeat row 2
Row 17: ch 1, turn, sc across (17)
Adding the Fringe:
Cut 68 short pieces of yarn (~3.5 inches long). I used a gift card as a template (top left picture).
Push your hook through a stitch. Loop two pieces of yarn onto your hook (top right) and pull through the stitch. Loop the yarn over your hook again and pull it through the starting loop (bottom left).
Add fringe to every other stitch (bottom right), all the way around the coaster. You’ll have eight pieces of fringe on each side and nine pieces of fringe on the top and bottom.
Using a small comb, brush out the fringe and unravel the yarn. I found this worked best if I combed on a soft surface (e.g. a couch pillow or leg).
Using scissors, trim the fringe to about half an inch long.
