Daisy Granny Square Pillow Crochet Pattern (Free)

Despite the weird weather, it’s officially spring! What’s more spring-y than a daisy granny square pillow crochet pattern?

It feels more like summer here in NC (I’m ready to turn the AC on!), and my future home of Denver, CO was absolutely pummeled by snow earlier this week. Crazy, crazy, crazy! Now is the time of year when I brag to my family back in Chicago-land, so it’s going to be a little weird when I move to a city that has blizzards in late March.

And moving is SO CLOSE y’all! Last night the hubs and I went to our favorite sushi restaurant for the last time. Ever. We’ve got some other restaurants on the list (Carolina BBQ… *drools*) and we’ll be working our way down as it gets closer and closer to June when we say goodbye f’realz.

Daisy Granny Square Pillow Crochet Pattern Inspiration

Enough about the weather and my restaurant binge — you’re here for my daisy granny square pillow pattern, right? And you’re like, “Damn girl, that’s cool about Denver but please STFU and get to the crocheting!” Amiright?!

Okay, fine. It’s FINALLY time to share my daisy granny square crochet pillow! It was a month ago that I shared the crochet pattern for my modified daisy granny squares, and then I got side-tracked making the Beer Mug Bottle Cozy and Leprechaun Hat Bottle Cozy for St. Patrick’s Day.

If you’ve been keeping up with YSC, you may remember seeing the pillow’s front already — I used the daisy granny squares as the example in my join-as-you-go tutorial. For the back, I chose to go with one big, traditional granny square (20 rows!) and rotated between the two colors of yellow and two colors of gray.

This is a pick your destiny pillow, however, and you can choose any back you like! Solid gray? ADORABLE. More daisy squares? LOVE IT. Solid single crochet? YESSS. You do you, GRRL!

Granny Squares Tutorial: How to Join-As-You-Go | YouShouldCraft.com #crochet

Join-As-You-Go:

Use the joining color (light gray) to join your granny squares using the join-as-you-go technique. When you finish joining your granny squares, crochet around the last three sides of the pillow side. Use a seamless join and weave in your ends.

If you’re not familiar with this method, or need a refresher, check out the join-as-you-go photo-tutorial here.

Back of the Pillow

You can make the back the same as the front (by joining 16 granny squares in a 4×4 pattern), you could make a solid single crochet backing, or I chose to make the back a large granny square. Mine uses all four colors, but a solid granny square would also look cute.

I’ve included the basic granny square pattern below, but I have a more detailed photo-tutorial for granny squares here.

Ch 4 and join with a sl st.
Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), 2 dc into the center of the ring. *Ch 1, 3 dc into the center of the ring.* Repeat the * section two more times, then join to the first dc (NOT the chain) with a sl st.

Round 2: Ch 2, turn. 2 dc into space below ch, ch 1, 3 dc into space. This will create your first of four corners. Below next chain (in the gap between the 3 dc clusters) crochet *3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc* (repeat * section 2 more times, for a total of four corners). Connect to the first dc with a sl st.

Round 3: Ch 2, turn. 2 dc into space below ch. In the corner space, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc (for your first corner). *3 dc in the next space, in the corner 3 dc, ch 1, 3dc* repeat * section 2 more times. Connect to first dc with a sl st.

Round 4 – 20: Continue the granny square pattern, with 3 dc in each space and 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in the corners. Change colors as desired.

Finishing the Daisy Granny Square Pillow

Line up the front and the back of the pillow, right sides facing out. Join your border color yarn (I used light gray) and ch 1. Sc all the way around the pillow, with 3 sc in each corner.

When you reach the final side, insert the 20 x 20 pillow form (I used part of a body pillow I hacked into 3 pieces) and continue to sc around. Connect to the first sc with a sl st or an invisible join. Trim yarn and weave in ends.

That’s it!
