As part of my personal push to go green, I whipped up some little cotton face scrubbies to replace the cotton balls I use for toner and makeup remover.

This is a really quick project that doesn’t use much yarn, so it’s a great way to do some stash busting (which is exactly what I did with some of the extra yarn I had from the Bobble Heart Potholder).

If you can do the puff stitch, you’re good to go! If not, I’ve included a quick photo tutorial to help you out (check it out below!).

Before you begin, round up your supplies or hit up Amazon! I had a pile of cotton yarn leftover from random projects, so I just used that.

Supplies:
Worsted weight cotton yarn (I used Sugar’n Cream from my stash)
H, I, or J crochet hook (I used a J hook in this tutorial and an H (5 mm) hook in the video)
Scissors
Tapestry needle, to weave in ends

Puff Stitch Tutorial:

Yarn over, and put hook under (top left), yarn over again, and pull through (top right). Repeat this process 4 more times, until there are 11 loops on your hook (bottom left). Yarn over one final time, and pull through all of the loops (bottom right). Finish off with a chain stitch.

Now that we all know how to puff stitch, let’s move on to the scrubbies!

six puff stitches in a magic ring with pink yarn and a gold crochet hook

Written Pattern

Round 1: Begin by making a magic ring, and *puff, chain* 8 times. If you don’t like magic rings, you could also chain 5, connect with a slip stitch, and then crochet the 8 puff stitches into the center of the circle (don’t forget to separate each with a chain, it will give you some extra room for the next row.

Round 2: Ch 1 and put 2 puff stitches into the top of the first puff stitch (not the chain, it will end up being less solid). Continue all the way around, with 2 puff stitches at the top of each previous puff stitch. (16 puff stitches)

That’s the end! It’s only three rounds to make a cute little crochet face scrubbie!

I picked out my brightest colors of Sugar’n Cream cotton yarn, but you could also use pastels or white for a more soothing, spa-like feel.

If you wash the scrubbies before using them, they’ll get super, super soft… which I love!

Be sure to make a bunch of face scrubbies so you can use them every day! I keep mine in my medicine cabinet so they’re easy to reach.
